Easter 2013 Part 2

Easter Sunday dawned bright and early (as mornings usually do at our house with Brandt).  The Easter bunny did things differently this year and just hid their entire baskets (which ended up being new pail and shovels since we couldn't remember where the Easter baskets ended up in the move) instead of hiding lots of plastic eggs filled with candy (since we also didn't know where the plastic eggs were). Yes, that is Kylie with a bottle (and her new swimsuit) even though she's 3.  We are working on breaking her of it, but it's the only way we can get her to take her allergy and asthma medicine.  Besides, my mom says she remembers her mom making her a bottle every day after she got home from kindergarten, so I guess we've still got a good couple years to work on it... After church we were able to go to the church in Liberty and spend time with the Hemmert side of Bryce's family.  All of Shellie's siblings and most of their children were able to be there, which was kind of a big deal because that hasn't happened for quite a few years and Bryce's aunt Diana Hanke recently went through treatments for cancer.  It was so nice for her to be well enough to travel up and my kids had a ton of fun with her kids as well as the rest of the cousins.  We had another miracle happen when Kylie fell (with a little help from what we understand) through the curtain and off the stage landing on the back of her head on the hard gym floor.  She had a huge goose egg and was crying and clingy for about 30 minutes, but then she was up and playing again.  She was back to her smiling self in time to go search for her Easter basket full of candy from Grandma Hemmert.  After the Easter baskets were all found, Bryce and I took the kids over to grandma Hemmert's where they spent time playing some more with the Hanke cousins.

Easter 2013 Part 1

Easter Saturday was a busy but fun one starting out with the Montpelier Easter egg hunt, which is more like an Easter egg scramble since the eggs were all just in the grass and dirt of the baseball fields and sectioned off for each age group.  There was no hunting for hidden eggs involved, but the kids still had fun and were happy with their candy and prizes in their eggs.  While they were waiting for their ages turn to go, Kylie kept sneaking eggs into her bag.  It was pretty funny and cute, of course, even though she was being a little cheater. We took Gabe and Mariah with us (mostly for my sake in order to have some back-up with my kids) and while Gabe did his "hunt" Brandt and Kylie had a great time playing on the swings.  Later that evening the kids and I decorated some eggs of our own.  I'm pretty sure that the pics I have of  buddy when he was Kylie's age were also naked ones.  Not sure why, but apparently they think it's more fun to dye
Easter eggs without their clothes on.

"Ummy Peppers"

Kylie loves red peppers and eats them the same way she does tomatoes and apples. She says they are "ummy!" She would eat a whole pepper everyday if we let her.  Yesterday we took Brandt to Dr. Doug (pediatric dentist) in Logan for his check up (with Mariah as back up thank goodness since he was a handful all day!) and sister was MAD that we didn't buy any red peppers at Walmart because they weren't on sale.  So you can imagine her excitement today when papa Lloyd brought her some home from Broulim's.  Every time she eats one I can't help but think that my Grandma Bodily is smiling down from Heaven...

Brandt's Breathing Miracle

Brandt had Influenza B last month and it really took a toll on his asthma.  We've had pretty good control of it for the past couple years with daily allergy medicine and Singulair and we use the nebulizer once in a while if it flares up.  With the flu he had a high fever for 5 days and his oxygen dropped as low as 78% at one point.  Thankfully we were able to treat him at home with nebulizer treatments and an advair inhaler. It was a little scary to send him back to school the next week since he would have an asthma attack every time he would run or anything, but we were able to get a rescue inhaler to send with him and that helped.  When we went swimming last night we decided to get in the hot tub at the end.  Brandt started coughing and couldn't stop.  He got a little panicky and so did I because I had neglected to take his rescue inhaler.  Thankfully Jana had listened to a prompting to grab Terry's inhaler and put it in her pocket as they were leaving their house, something that she's never done for as long as they've been married.  It was the exact kind Buddy uses and although he didn't have the spacer and didn't get full doses, it was enough to get the attack under control.  Later Brandt told me that he felt like he was going to die.  How thankful I am for a Heavenly Father who watches out for my family and blesses me with people in my life who know how to listen to that still small voice.
